hard to say, but I would recommend torturing her with seastones instead, it's far more annoying

The very first time I saw the Grateful Dead I sat through half an hour of Phil and Ned. And I came back for more. So what does that tell you? That Phil and Ned are geniuses? Or that I'm a bozo?

Rob, to answer your question - both. And I also confess to being one of the bozos on that bus. I sat in the 3rd row in front of Phil at the International Amphitheater (nice name for the stockyards exhibition hall) in Chicago on 7-25-74. When Phil and Ned took the stage, I was enthralled by their performance . . . such wonderful strange and otherworldly sounds "to fill the air" of that smelly old 'cow palace'.

It was nice to see this reviewed recently:

I have had this same snippet of that show on 7 inch reel at 7 1/2 ips since '75 - always loved the segue from Seastones into Dark Star - and what a Morning Dew!!

I'm also very fond of the Seastones -> Eyes ... sequence from 9-11-74 at the Ally Pally. What an amazing difference between those two venues!

I'd love to find a Seastones recording from that Chicago 7-25-74 show sometime . . .

Duckpond, it twas me who reveiwed that. But in retrospect, I do think I am mistaken. I torrented the rest of the run and every show has the exact same mix. I never owned these back in my analog days, so finally hearing them was awesome. The mix is unlike any I've ever heard before, heavy on Phil and Billy, with Jer kinda not so much in the forefront. Even Bob seems more outfront, which is nice in a way. All the torrents list them as boards, so I suppose they are. Even if this is true, feels much more matrixy to me. And yes I agree with you in that the 18th is the best of the bunch. Seastones -> Star -> Dew is epic.

It was the Seastones - Eyes Ally Pally show I was at! I guess for better or worse it made me the man I am today. Eyes coming out of Seastones was and will always be one of the most extraordinary events of my life.

It's a good one, alright. Listening to it now - had to put it on after my last post. Love those seagull sounds!

The part in in Dark Star after 6:30 sounds like Jerry threw out an anchor to regroup back to verse. It seems so familiar and yet this is not one of my go-to shows. Maybe there's an island there for lost sailors to take account.
